A hand planer that has a spiral cutterhead and gets into corners? Yep! That's the Festool HL 850 Imperial. Using an electric planer right up to the edge or into corners often produces less than desirable results, because the machine usually leaves an ugly lip that has to be removed by hand.....unless you have the Festool HL 850 E.
The HL 850 E lets you cut flush into an adjacent surface because it can plane across the entire width of the rabbet. With its planer head mounted on just one side, it sits flush with the opposite side of the planer housing. The protective side guard swings up as the rabbet depth increases and, because of the single bearing head, rabbeting depths are unlimited.
Capable of running at 10,000 rpm, the spiral cutterhead leaves ultra-smooth surfaces and the single solid carbide blade can be changed in minutes. Cutting depth can be infinitely adjusted from 0-9/64" with the stepless rotary handle. Cutterhead is 3-15/64" wide.
HL 850 E includes: The planer, a parallel guide, and a rabbet depth guide, all in a T-Loc Systainer 3. Planer has a 850 watt/7 amp motor and weighs about 8-1/2 lbs.
