Decking & Patio

Let's get started on building the deck of your dreams. At Hartville Hardware, you can purchase everything you need to build your perfect patio or deck from the ground up, from the first girder to the last post cap.

Composite and PVC decking products are boards, rails, and posts made from synthetic materials used as an alternative to real wood. They are both low-maintenance, durable decking solutions. Both are engineered to resist rot, mold, fungus, and insects. Both are likely to look great for decades to come, without any need for sealants or staining. Both are available in a wide variety of colors. But there are some notable differences.

Pro Tip

Many cities, towns, and villages require a permit to build a deck. Be sure to check to see if you need one before starting your project.

Pressure treated decking is softwood that has been chemically treated and then placed in a vacuum chamber. This process makes the wood far less susceptible to damage from harsh weather, rot, insect activity, mold, and fungus. Composite and PVC decks generally have treated lumber frames. This lumber is ideal not just for decks, but for porches, patios, pergolas, and gazebos. We have pressure treated timbers, deck boards, joists, stair parts, and more!

NEXT STEPS

So which is better for you: composite, PVC, or treated wood? We're here to help you figure it out. Stop by the store, where you can see, touch, and even stand on some of our most popular decking options. Our experts are on-hand to answer any questions.

When it comes time to add railing to your deck or porch, appearance is only one factor. Your top rails, bottom rails, balusters (spindles), and railing caps must also be sturdy enough to keep the family safe for years to come. Cable is the sturdy, sustainable option that doesn't obstruct your view.

When it comes to lighting up your new deck, pergola, or other outdoor structure, Hartville Hardware gives you options! Wired deck lighting is easy to install, whether you're adding it as you build or afterward. Post lights, flush mounted lights, and stair lights can all be wired to one transformer and controlled with a switch. Solar deck lights are even easier to install, and they continue to shine bright even when the lights go out. Check out our huge selection of outdoor lighting options.

What's the difference between a deck and a patio? We get that question a lot. Unlike a deck, which is a structure attached to a house that's built at least a few inches off the ground, a patio is a paved area at ground level, often surrounded by landscaping elements like flower beds or shrubbery. Hartville Hardware has what you need to make a patio of your own, from the first layer of gravel to the last edging stone.
