Whiteside 5630 Ogee Stile Profile Router Bit for MDF Doors. This MDF Door ogee profile "Stile" router bit is designed to give the illusion of raised panel construction in MDF and solid panel doors. Used individually, MDF Door bits produce a nice, simple raised panel effect in one pass. Using a "Stile" bit in combination with a "Panel" bit will create a more authentic raised panel look. Numerous combinations are possible.
Although meant for use in production work routing on solid door machines and CNC routers, the addition of a bearing to the shank of these bits will allow the hobbyist woodworker to cut a pattern by using a template guide. The guide can be 4 strips clamped around the perimeter of the door. The top strip can be designed for an arched door pattern. The pattern can be left in place for both the Stile and the Panel cuts. A larger bearing on the Panel bit takes care of the necessary offset. Stile bits require the use of a B16 Bearing, while Panel bits require a B24 Bearing. Bearings for both bits must be secured with a LC12 (1/2") Lock Collar.
When making the second cut be sure to match the depth setting of the first cut to obtain a pattern with a flat bottom. For a more distinctive look, you may vary depth the depth of cut to create a "step" at the bottom of the panel reveal. As an extra enhancement a door edge profile can be added to the outside edge of the door. 2 wing. Carbide tipped. Whiteside Machine Company - Claremont, North Carolina.
