Basswood is ideal for woodcarving! The soft, fine and even texture of Basswood is easy to work with. It is a creamy, light color that is uniform throughout the board. This pale coloring is ideal for carved patterns because it doesn’t detract from the details. It is also great for painting and coloring. When put under stress with low weight, the wood will remain stiff, however, relatively average weight causes Basswood to rupture or break. Basswood does not respond well to steam bending but it does respond well to glue and finishing.
