Crown COLSKEW2 Colwin Way Skew, 3/4 in. Unlike most traditional turning skew chisels the 3/4-inch (19mm) Colwin Way Skew chisel has a tapering blade. It starts wider at the cutting edge and narrows as it gets closer to the handle. The historic German influenced design originates from the area around Seiffen in Saxony, where it has long been a preferred turning tool by the region’s toymakers.
The Colwin Way Skew is easier to handle because the flared tip counterbalances the short handle. This intentionally shorter than normal handle puts your hand closer to the cutting area, giving you greater control. All together it results in more sensitive feel when making planing cuts.
The side of the blade has a rolled (rounded) edge along nearly the entire length to allow it to glide smoothly along the tool rest. This also allows the skew to roll evenly when forming beads.
The skew has a 8 inch long blade joined to a 10 inch long handle, for an overall length of approximately 18 inches. Made from cryogenically treated high-speed steel for superior edge retention. Polished ash handle with brass ferrule. England
