Robert Sorby 446 Universal Sharpening System. A specially designed tool rest platform that simplifies the sharpening of more square or rectangular tools, like bench chisels, plane irons and wood turning scrapers on your bench grinder. Along with some optional extra jigs it can also be used for roughing gouges and skew chisels.
The System itself is adjustable for height, enabling it to be used with a 6", 7" or 8" bench grinder. The angle of the platform is also adjustable to the different bevel angles appropriate to the tool – a handy angle finder is included to help set angles consistently.
The design also incorporates two nice features: 1.) The adjusting nuts are held captive so there is no fear of losing them in saw dust and shavings; 2.) There are screw slots - rather than screw holes - so that as the grinding wheel wears the System can be moved closer to the bench grinder.
The Universal Sharpener is adaptable for use with many of Sorby’s ProEdge Sharpening System jigs. In order to use these optional jigs, an Adapter Table (#447JAT, sold separately) needs to be attached to the tool platform.
