Crown 279S Shell Auger. Also known as a Lamp Auger or Long Hole Boring Tool (as well as several other names) this Shell Auger from Crown is specially designed to drill long straight holes in wood turnings. Used on a lathe equipped with a hollow tailstock center, it is especially useful for drilling wiring holes in lamp base turnings.

This tool is made completely from High Speed Steel with a spiral flute, which results in removing wood easier and quicker than ordinary Augers. Has an 18-3/4 inch blade and bores a 5/16 inch diameter hole. Stained ash handle is approximately 8-1/2" long, and the tool has an overall length of approximately 28-1/4". England
