Crown 242XW Master Flute Bowl Gouge, 1/2 in. The Masterflute Bowl Gouge is the original tool that Crown used to introduce the special parabolic flute shape and added flute length that has now become the standard on all of their bowl gouges. Thus the Masterflute's main advantage over other Crown Bowl Gouges now lies in its much longer handle.
The parabolic flute shape also gives the tool more versatility in that the turner may apply a wider variation in preferred grinds (Celtic, German, Ellsworth, etc.), if desired.
