Sorby TurnMaster Shank w/Round TCC Cutter is the un-handled version of Robert Sorby's versatile TurnMaster Tool, featuring a round tungsten carbide cutter (TCC) designed for smoothing, shaping, and internal waste removal. This innovative tool is the first wood turning tool in the world to combine three cutting-edge technologies into one highly adaptable instrument. Its collection of interchangeable parts and cutters makes it the most flexible and valuable single turning tool available today. The TurnMaster accepts three standard cutters—square, round, or detail—as well as a variety of other specially configured cutting tips to suit different turning needs. The patented interchangeable cutter head locks into three positions, allowing both scraping for fast material removal and shear scraping for fine finishing and smoothing. The round shank includes a flat underside for stability on the rest, secured with a high tensile strength Torx screw to keep cutters firmly in place. A special key is included for quick cutter release. Cutters come in three materials: tungsten carbide (TC), high speed steel (HSS), and titanium nitride (TiN) coated Excelsior tips. This variety lets turners choose the perfect cutter for their material, whether it’s roughing abrasive exotic woods or achieving clean, detailed finishes. Both HSS and TiN cutters can be resharpened, with TiN offering enhanced toughness and prolonged edge life. The RSTM-SCT1 model comes equipped with a round tungsten carbide cutter and includes a cutter release key, Torx wrenches, and an instruction sheet. The head and shank measure 10-5/8" long, with a shank diameter of 1/2" and a tang length of 2-1/8".
