These pen jaws feature a specially machined 'V' groove on each of the two jaws, ensuring a secure and firm grip on the pen blank. This design allows the turner to hold the blank perfectly centered on the lathe, resulting in more accurate drilling and better control throughout the process. The jaws are quickly and easily mounted onto the chuck face opposite each other with two clamping screws, built to withstand heavy usage for long-lasting performance. Operation is straightforward: mount a drill chuck into the lathe’s tailstock, slide the drill bit up to the pen blank held in the jaws, lock down the tailstock, and drill out the hole to fit the brass tube. Drilling on a lathe offers superior control over motor speed and feed rate, enhancing the overall quality of the pen-making process.
