Sorby Medium Sovereign Ultima Hollowing Blade is a versatile tool designed for woodturners to create hollow forms up to 11 inches in both wet and dry woods. Part of the Robert Sorby Sovereign System, it can also be used as a stand-alone tool when installed in the Sovereign handle. This medium Ultima blade features a cutter system that slices through wood rather than scraping, allowing shavings to clear easily without clogging. It works effectively on both bowl grain and end-grain projects. The cutter can make light or heavy cuts, and its unique micro-adjust feature lets turners set the cutter depth with precision. Made from high-grade high-speed steel (HSS), the cutter exposes only one third at a time and can be rotated twice through 120 degrees before requiring resharpening. Sharpening is simple with a diamond hone, and the cutter can be removed if needed. An optional sharpening jig made from phosphor bronze is available, which rotates freely and accommodates various sharpening methods including diamond hone, bench grinder, or ProEdge. The articulating head and link system allow for a variety of hollow form shapes, from traditional vases to squashed forms, with additional links enabling extreme undercutting. Removing the links converts the Ultima into a probe for straight-sided hollowing. The tool shaft measures 5/8" in diameter and is approximately 13-1/4" long below the articulating head. This medium blade set includes the articulating head with cutter, set screw hex keys, and an instruction sheet, all manufactured in England.
