1/8 x 3/4 x 16 in. African Mahogany Turning Blank is crafted from African Mahogany, primarily sourced from West Africa, with some distribution in Central and East Africa. This wood includes various species of Khaya, known for their varying densities ranging from 33 to 50 lb/ft3. Among these, Khaya Ivorensis stands out for its excellent stability and superior working properties. The heartwood initially displays a distinct pink hue when freshly cut, which matures into shades from light pinkish-brown to a rich, deep reddish tone. The sapwood is yellowish-brown and may not always be clearly distinguished from the heartwood. Featuring an interlocking grain and a coarse texture, this wood responds well to a reduced cutting angle of 15 degrees, which helps minimize surface pick-up during shaping.
