The Laguna REVO 12/16 Midi-Lathe features a 1-hp DC permanent magnet motor and a Pulse Width Modulation system that maintains consistent torque at any speed. This PWM system enables tremendous torque to be applied in low speed settings which is helpful for roughing and precision work. It also allows outboard turning up to a 16” bowl. This midi lathe also features a one step cam-action belt change with magnetic door housing and a luxury banjo with a 45° chamfered edge.
How Does Pulse Width Modulation differ from standard controllers?
- Typically, a controller limits voltage or current to adjust the speed. This limitation results in less torque being available especially at low to mid-range speeds. The voltage not being used is converted to heat that can damage electrical components after prolonged use. PWM delivers power to a DC motor through a succession of voltage pulses rather than adjusting voltage or current. PWM vastly improves efficiency at low- to mid-range speeds and substantially decreases the loss of torque under load.
