Named after its bright yellow coloring, Yellow Heart is commonly used for joinery, turnery, accents and furniture. It may also be called “Pau Amarello” which is Portuguese for “yellow wood”. The trees that give us Yellow Heart can grow more than 100 feet tall and 30-inches in diameter. This wood is normally easy to work when using hand or machine tools but has moderate to poor bending properties. It takes glues and finishes well and is rated moderately for decay resistance. Yellow Heart has a high amount of radial shrinkage compared to tangential shrinkage which gives it a very low T/R ratio. This means it has good stability when in use.
