Distribution: SE Asia & south pacific introduced into the Carribean and West Africa
Description: A uniform dark golden brown, coarse texture with a straight grain. Silica is present in the wood, oily to the touch and has a distinct leather- like smell.
Working Properties: Due to presence of silca causes severe blunting of tools, working overall is relatively easy although pre-boring is required before screwing or nailing. Glues easily although some precautions should be taken to insure surface is free of oil before applying. Oiling is recommended as a good finish.
